The Cinco Spirit cover families often tell us the reason they moved to Cinco Ranch is the sense of community. And our wonderful community was truly put to the test just 2 weeks ago when Hurricane Harvey’s rain devastated and flooded many of our neighborhoods (along with several in Houston and surrounding communities). This disaster truly hit home and our community members, along with first responders and kind strangers, rescued fellow neighbors in boats from their homes; housed, clothed and fed them; donated clothes, blankets, pillows, shoes, food and more; and helped demo houses to begin to start again. Personally, I have never seen or experienced anything like it. But with tragedy comes triumph (I heard that sometime in the past few weeks – not quite sure who said it – it’s all been a blur) and that could not be more true.

The community of Cinco Ranch has rallied together to help those impacted by these devastating floods all around the greater Houston area. For those of us who did not have property loss, we share an emotional toll with our friends and neighbors that won’t soon be forgotten. But what brought us here, what convinced many of us to move here, has been on display for all to see. The Cinco Spirit Cover family of the month, the Prazaks feel just like the rest of us. They moved here because of the sense of community, and I know they couldn’t be more grateful or proud.

Back in the late spring, long before Harvey came around, I met the Prazak family for their early morning photoshoot at Southlake – one of their favorite spots in our community. Only a few photos from the session make it into the magazine, so I always like to share more here. I hope the smiling face info this sweet boy puts a smile on your face. And thank you to everyone who makes this community so great – we are #KatyStrong!

The August Cinco Spirit Family is a very special one to me! Katie and I have been friends since soon after we moved to Katy. I adore her and her family and really wanted to meet and exceed her family portrait expectations. After out initial planning meeting/constult and a few calls and texts back and forth about wardrobe, we headed to downtown Houston for fun family portrait session. Katie and the family arrived looked ON POINT! The bold colors really popped off the Houston background and looked amazing against the setting sun background, too. We had a lot of laughs, kicked the soccer ball around, rescued the ball from the bayou and really enjoyed an evening in downtown Houston!

After all was said and done the portraits look AMAZING on the wall of their home. So, without further ado, here is a selection of the Both Family Portraits. Enjoy!

Sweet Maxwell is the answer to many prayers and I believe the joy on his parents face in the photos below show just how much they will always love and cherish him. It was an honor to photograph this little guy just a few days after he was born. Newborn sessions are something special and you can’t help but think of your own kids as newborns. I love being able to capture the new family in their home – the place where many more firsts will be experienced – first steps, first holidays, first birthdays and so many more. Brad and Brittany are taking advantage of my Year One Baby Plan (more about that HERE) offered to my newborn family clients, so you will see this little guy grow over the next year with more photos from his 6 month and 12 month photo session in the fall and early spring. Can’t wait to watch him grown.

And now, a little from Brad and Brittany on a Newborn Session with me…

Please tell me about your session experience (the good, the funny, etc):
We had a wonderful experience with Maureen. We met with her prior to our session to discuss her style and what we were looking for. It felt like a team effort to create the best session possible. We really like how she tries to take all of the pictures in a natural setting with a candid approach. There was even one point in the session when she stopped because the picture felt too posed. She was very patient with us and made sure that we were happy with everything as we were changing setting, props, etc. We feel the entire session captured exactly what we were looking for.

Would you recommend Maureen O’Shay Photography to friends and family? Why or why not?
Yes we would because she is prepared and has a very professional attitude. Her patience is also a virtue that was much appreciated.

Where was your session held and why?
It was held at our home because that was what was jointly agreed upon. We feel like it made it a lot easier with our newborn so we were very appreciative of that.

What was your favorite part of your photo session?
We liked how Maureen was ready for anything as our newborn was behaved at times and then there were times when he got hungry. Our favorite part was getting her help with taking pictures using some of our favorite items around the house.

Before every session, I ask my clients what words would they use to describe their ideal portrait session. The July Family of the Month – the Thomsen’s said: “natural, peaceful, having fun, laughing, connected” – and after looking at these images below, you can see we did just that! I’ve blogged about the importance of the in-person consultation – since that is where we plan out the session, get to know each other better, and choose the location — and how that can make all the difference in how your images turn out (check that blog entry out here) and it works. As you can see below, the chosen location was just perfect – we had a great sunrise on the bayou (natural and peaceful and connected) and then had a great time running around Exploration Park with the kids (having fun, laughing and connected – again!). The family’s wardrobe was on point and everyone was comfortable.

Here’s a little bit more from mom Cory, about the session, in her own words:

Tell us a little about your session experience:
Maureen put the whole family instantly at ease. Her friendly and playful demeanor made everyone feel comfortable and relaxed, which made the whole session more fun. So much fun in fact, that our kids asked about when we could do it again! 🙂

Where was your session held and why? We spend so much of our time at parks in the area. We chose Exploration Park because it’s a place we’ve enjoyed visiting as a family a few times before, and at the same time, it would be a bit special for the kids.

What did you like about your location?
You found that awesome creek view in the background for those initial sunrise shots. I loved it because biking along the bayou is something we enjoy doing as a family! I like that we had the park mostly to ourselves and could run freely around without having to worry about getting in others’ way and vice versa. And as an added bonus, I think the colors of the playground equipment worked well with our wardrobe palette.

Any advice to other families?
Choose a location that aligns with an activity that your family would do anyway. Wear something that makes you feel confident, and are also comfortable so everyone feels like themselves.

What do you hope your kids/family will say years down the road when looking at these images?
I hope they remember having an awesome childhood surrounded by laughter and love.
