“Raise a glass to freedom, something they can never take away” – Lin-Manuel Miranda “The Story of Tonight” from Hamilton: An American Musical

Nothing more approriate than to post about Hamilton: The American Musical on this the 4th of July 2018.

It’s rainy here in Houston so many of the festivities are either on hold or canceled for the day. It’s all good, sometimes the rain is welcome when it’s been 95 degrees for weeks. A break isn’t always a bad thing. It gives me time to catch up – and catch you up.

In late May, I photographed the cast of Hamilton (Angelica Tour) – you might have seen me post about it (I was kinda of excited).  I am a huge fan of this show and the idea that a musical can entertain, educate, inspire and remind is nothing short of impressive. The show reminds us of just how very lucky we are to live in the United States of America and how even an orphan immigrant can rise up and change the world.

I saw a sign yesterday that said “Party like it’s 1776” and it made me laugh. I am sure many people will take a photo by it and post it on Instagram, but if you really think about it, in 1776 people were sacrificing and dying so future generations could enjoy freedom. It was not a party! We are so in the debt of those who fought and died for our freedom back then and those who continue to do that today.

So today, I wanted to share some photos of this amazing cast – who are not only insanely talented, but who are also gracious, kind, fun people – that make our country so great. This diverse cast is representative of America today and I am proud to have worked with them. This post is dedicated to all that fight for our freedom. THANK YOU! <3

Photographing Andrea and Scott Witte, along with kids Connor and Lauren, was one of the most fun sessions I’ve ever had – it was nonstop smiles and laughs! We headed out to a local park with stunning yellow flowers – such a beautiful sight to see (I grew up in Florida, so these crazy-beautiful Texas wildflowers still leave me breathless! Love them!).

Sometimes at sessions I have to be a little silly in the beginning to “loosen up” my clients but that was not necessary with the Witte Family. They all put you at ease and make you feel like you have known them for years. Then the jokes and fun chaos began! We were throwing the frisbee (yes, while photographing them!) and generally having a really good time.

Speaking of good times, the Witte Family co-owns Katy’s own Good Times Running company and now that I have gotten to know them better, that name could not be more fitting. They are a good time to be around and will leave you with a smile on your face! (To learn more about Good Times Running Company follow them on Instagram HERE.)

The Witte Family is the June Cover Family for the Cinco Spirit and since the magazine can only print so many portraits from their session, below are a few more to enjoy. And don’t they look great? Each Maureen O’Shay Photography client receives a Style Guide (different ones for family and senior sessions – of course!) and in post-session feedback, Andrea said, “I referred to it [the Style Guide] more than once while trying to get the right “look” for our family. And choosing to get hair and makeup done was a great recommendation – this was a special occasion to have family photos done & my daughter and I were so happy with the outcome!”

Taking the time to pull together your wardrobe and compliment each other in addition to professional hair and makeup really make your photos go from good to GREAT! Ready to schedule your session – visit here. To learn more about me, Maureen, visit HERE.

Maureen O

I have been BURSTING at the seams keeping this big news to myself the last few days. I was going to wait till Monday to make the announcement, but really, just couldn’t wait another day (plus, if I tell you now you can experience it right alongside of me)!

Many of you saw on social media that my daughters and I, along with my friend and her son, attended Hamilton last week. The show was phenomenal! After the show, we were able to take a special backstage tour and actually walk on the stage! We’ve been fans for years and hard to believe we were in “the room where it happened!” It was incredible and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

So, how does this tie into my big news? The big news is – I will be photographing the cast of Hamilton tomorrow! I am SO excited and I will be posting lots of behind the scenes on social media  – which is why I wanted to let you know tonight so you are sure to follow along. Take a moment to make sure you are following me on Instagram (www.instagram.com/maureenoshay) and keep an eye on insta-stories tomorrow for some fun, candid moments from the session! Tell all your Hamilton friends to follow along, too!

(And of course, I’ll do a full blog post about the day soon after.)

Below is a photo from ON THE STAGE make sure you get tickets if you haven’t already – it was worth every penny. This cast is out-of-this-world talented.

Mariah is a fun-loving senior from the Class of 2018. Her smiles lights up a room and her positive attitude is contagious. We had a great time working together! Of course, you don’t have to take my word for it. Here’s Mariah’s mom…in her own words:

What was your favorite part the actual photo session day?
The whole experience was great. Maureen is very friendly and knew right from the beginning how to make Mariah feel comfortable and at ease with the process.

Do you feel Maureen heard what you and your Senior wanted (your session vision) in the consultation and delivered that to you in final portraits?
Yes, it was a wonderful experience. So much so that now my youngest daughter wants to make sure we use Maureen for her senior pictures when it is her turn to graduate from high school.

Tell me what you like most about what you purchased (even if it hasn’t been delivered yet)?
The beauty and quality of the pictures, the elegance of the displays, the multitude of wonderful options to choose from and the great patience and disposition Maureen has to guide us through those options.

Our Senior Portrait Experience takes a “must do” item of getting senior portraits taken and turns it into a “love doing this with you/memory making moment” item on your list. We want you to enjoy this time with your senior and cherish these memories forever!

As a photographer, it’s not everyday I am in front of the camera. But recently, Voyage Houston reached out to me and wanted to highlight me as one of “Houston’s Most Inspiring Stories.” At first, I thought it was a scam!

I am used to telling other peoples stories through portraits. I get to know my clients well and am often inspired by their ability to rise up to different life challenges that they have faced. It’s still kind of surreal that my story – my fighting Crohn’s disease and moving this client based business multiple times – has inspired others. It is truly an honor.

So, thank you Voyage Houston for the coverage. I truly appreciated it. Click HERE to read the story.
